An absolute must-read this month is an investigation by Scott LNU of the Dallas Food blog into whether Noka chocolate (based in Plano, TX, just outside Dallas) is worth the price. Noka is the most expensive chocolate in the world, commanding upwards of $306/pound ($680.75/kilo), and has been hailed by Taste, a food program on Sky One television, as their number one choice in chocolates. I'm not giving anything away by telling you it's overpriced, but how overpriced may surprise you.
Even if you don't care especially about chocolate, this piece is still worth reading because it's an example of some excellent investigative journalism of a kind which is all too rare these days. Scott does not seek "balance" in his reporting, he goes for the throat, and provides evidence in extensive (perhaps even excruciating) detail why he is right to do so. This piece should cause severe embarrassment to the founders of Noka and to anyone who has ever bought any of their products; and to the editors of Taste, I might add.
