Biography

Name:Jurjen
Year of birth:1970
Location:Olympia, WA, United States
Originally from:The Hague (Den Haag), The Netherlands
Marital status:Married, with one son, Hendrik
Politics:According to the World's smallest Political Quiz, I'm a centrist, bordering on left-wing (70% personal self-government, 40% economic self-government).
Centrists favor selective government intervention and emphasize practical solutions to current problems. They tend to keep an open mind on new issues.
That sums it up fairly well.

On the Political Compass I tend to get between -2 and -3 on the economic left/right scale, and between -5 and -6 on the authoritarian/libertarian scale (the variance is caused mostly by whether I simply agree/disagree with a statement, or agree/disagree "strongly"; this is subject to my mood on any given day).

Religion:Secular humanist (of the atheistic persuasion)
Influential periods:Military service (1993-1994), working at the UN ICTY (1997-2001)
Beverages:Olympic Crest coffee, Hendrick's gin & tonic, Fish Tale ales, and I do miss Hertog Jan
Periodicals:The Olympian, The Economist

For my earlier scribblings, No Cameras v1.0
I've also posted some film reviews on IMDb.

"I've just had the HVO telling me no cameras. I told them to get stuffed." - Lt. Col. Bob Stewart, CO of BRITBAT, to BBC correspondent Martin Bell, outside Ahmici, Bosnia, 22-Apr-1993
